WHO WE BE

FARM:

Deep Meadow Farm originated in 1987, on the Seacoast of New Hampshire. It was on a 23 acre farm, inside an old horse corral that the seeds were first sown. In an attempt to grow more food for ourselves we asked a neighbor, who had some tractors that were sitting around, to turn over some land for us. Upon arriving home he had tilled 3-4 acres. What more was there to do but plant the land. It was not long before we were selling at farmers markets and direct to restaurants. Amidst a strong Organic movement, we became the 10th farm to be certified by the new State run Certification program.

In 2003, after a 8 year hiatus from farming, Jon once again turned back to the land. Starting again with minimum equipment he found 6 acres of land to lease in Westminster VT. Bringing a strong desire to once again contribute to the food system and directly care for land, he began attending farmers markets, started a CSA, and sold to wholesale outlets. Making a sincere contribution to the community through growing of food has always remained at the center of Deep Meadow Farm. Within a few years the farm has grown into a local source for healthy foods and a deep commitment to sustainable principles. In 2008 we relocated to 10 acres of land, an additional greenhouse, cultivating equipment and cold-storage. Things have gone in the right direction and we look forward to being an integral part of the River Valley in years to come.

JON:

A New Yorker by birth (hold the comments), he has long been a resident of New England. Farming has always been his passion, however along the way he also provided counseling services to both children and families. Today he is very involved in the operation of the farm and issues surrounding Farming in Vermont. He is a board member of each of the markets he attends and was reelected as the President of the Vermont Farmers Market association for a second term. His energy and commitment to the farming community are apparent in his outspoken manner and activism.
